Important Information for Amicus Attorney 7 Release 1

Document Last Modified: October 25, 2007

This document contains important information relevant to Amicus Attorney 7 Release 1. Included are tips on optimizing your use of Amicus Attorney, and links to third-party web sites for information or relevant downloads.

N0030 (Newly Updated)Daylight Savings Time: Beginning in 2007, Daylight Savings Time in the United States and Canada is starting three weeks earlier (on March 11th, the second Sunday in March) and ending one week later (on November 4th, the first Sunday in November). Unless certain Microsoft updates are applied to your computers, it is possible that the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during these periods. Several Microsoft products are affected, including Windows, Exchange Server, and Outlook. Note that Microsoft has made additional Daylight Savings Time and time zone changes since those released in January 2007. For full information, including directions to Knowledge Base articles, recommended preparation, and general sequence of update actions, see the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center, at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst.

Provided that you apply the applicable Windows updates to all your computers, Amicus products are not directly affected by this change. However, those who use Amicus third-party integrations that affect your Calendar scheduling (like Outlook, Palm and other mobile devices) should ensure that they apply any patches or updates made available by those third-party vendors and follow their recommendations for avoiding appointment inconsistencies.

Remember to keep your Amicus Server and all Workstation date/time settings in sync. Failure to do so may affect the accuracy of system-generated items, including notifications.

It is strongly recommended that you check your Amicus appointments during the adjustment periods to confirm that they are correctly scheduled.

N0029/KB070125—Logging in to Amicus Attorney might take several minutes. This is a known issue with SP3 of SQL Server 2000, both full SQL Server and MSDE. (For details, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article “Performance of a query that is run from a client program on a SQL Server SP3 database is slow after you restart the instance of SQL Server” at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815249.)
SOLUTION: Update SQL to SP4 at the Amicus Database Server:

·     If using MSDE: Please contact Gavel & Gown Technical Support for assistance.

·     If using full SQL Server: Download the appropriate updater package (SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE) and corresponding Readme file from the Microsoft Download Center at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8E2DFC8D-C20E-4446-99A9-B7F0213F8BC5&displaylang=en.

Read the downloaded Readme file and run the downloaded package to extract its contents to C:\SQL2KSP4 on your Amicus Database Server. When ready to install the update, ensure that all Amicus Attorney users are online and logged out, ensure that all Amicus Accounting users (if any) are logged out, back up the Amicus Attorney database, and follow the installation instructions in the Readme file. When prompted, do not choose Windows Authentication – instead, identify the SA user and enter their Password. When the update is completed, the Server will likely need to be restarted.

7450—An error message appears when you attempt to install the Amicus 7 Merge or Tasks Toolbar, the Outlook Contacts & Calendar Link, or the Palm Link. The message states that the setup file cannot be found.
WORKAROUND: As instructed in the Install Guide, ensure that all folders in Windows Explorer at the workstation are set to show file extensions.

12331—The Microsoft Indexing Service, which supports full text document searching, might not be set to start up automatically whenever the Amicus Server is restarted. We recommend that you set this Service to restart automatically. At the Server, go to Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, right-click on Indexing Service in the list, and choose Properties. In the Startup Type field, choose Automatic. Click OK.

12471—The Windows Display Properties, Advanced setting of Large Size (120 DPI) is not supported. We recommend Normal Size (96 DPI).

s101If any Firm Members use mapped drives to reference the location of attached Document files and folders, document templates, etc., then ensure that their mapped drive connections to those machines will not be lost periodically. This applies to several versions of Windows. For details, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article “Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost” at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297684. The article describes two alternative ways of addressing this issue. If you choose to edit the Windows Registry and need assistance, please contact your network technician.

s102—When configuring the accounting link template for Juris in Firm Settings, you must specify a Posting File Name that has the extension .TSB. And when importing the time entries into Juris, you must specify the File Type as “Juris 3.x (*.TSB)” in the Juris Time Entry – Import File dialog.

s103—The Palm Link does not currently support the Windows Mobile-based Treo 700w smart phones. The link is compatible only with those devices that use the Palm operating system. However, synchronization with these devices can be achieved via a three-way link using the Amicus Attorney-Outlook Contacts & Calendar integration available in the Premium Edition.

s104—The Palm Link does not work in a terminal server environment. According to the Palm Support Knowledge Library, “Terminal Server or Server Editions of the Windows operating system are not supported by Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager. If you're using a Terminal Server or Server Edition of Windows, you may see the "blue screen" when you try to synchronize.” (Solution ID: 26344, at http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,CASE=obj(26344),ts=Palm_External2001).

s105—The 64-Bit Editions of Windows, SQL Server 2000, and SQL Server 2005 are not currently supported.

s106—Editions of Windows that do not use the Latin-1 Roman character set with accented western European characters (ISO 8859-1) are not currently supported.

s107—Amicus smart tags for Contact Full Names are not supported in Word 2002 (XP) and Excel 2002 (XP).
